Beautiful cobalt blue cloisonne thimble featuring a colorful dragon from Thailand. The basic enamel color on the thimble is cobalt blue on a gold colored brass thimble. This is a non-repeating full wrap pattern. There is a gold brass top and bottom rim with a Greek key design on this thimble.
Cloisonne is a unique art form that originated in Beijing during the Yuan Dynasty (1271 - 1368). In the period titled 'Jingtai' during the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644), the emperor who was very much interested in bronze-casting techniques, improved the color process, and created the bright blue that appealed to the Oriental aesthetic sense.
The colors blue and green, associated with the Wood Element, both symbolize growth and are used to represent longevity and harmony. The ancient Chinese used the same word to describe the blue of the sky and the green of growing things. Further, blue is also sometimes used to denote heavenly blessings.
