Finely collectible china thimble featuring a Japanese village, bridge and river pastoral scene, made by Birchroft, Stoke-on-Trent, England. This English collectible china thimble features a rural village landscape near a stream with a bridge on the front, an exquisitely detailed village landscape on the back, and hand-applied gold gilding to the top of the thimble.
Visitors to Japan's ancient capitals, invariably retain in their memories the evocative silhouette of a wood or stone pagoda - at times towering gracefully above the tiled rooftops of an old neighborhood, and at times rising abruptly from the midst of a huddle of modern buildings.
Birchcroft China is now established as the largest manufacturer of Fine China Thimbles in the world. The company is still very much a family-run business, which was founded by Tony Forbes about 25 years ago. Initially, thimbles were produced for the souvenir market, and between 1985-1995, over a million thimbles were made per year for places as far afield as Australia, Africa, Canada, Europe and the USA. The Birchcroft name became well-known among thimble collectors around the world. Most thimbles are limited editions of 500 sets or fewer and have become extremely collectable. Many thimbles are now out of production and are very rare.
This beautiful English collectible china thimble measures 1.25" tall and 7/8" in diameter at the base and is in excellent condition. Marked on the inside of the thimble with BIRCHCROFT CHINA, their logo of a tree, and Great Britain. An elegant addition to your thimble collection.
