Vintage collectible CLASSIC CAR Beer Stein by Avon, first in the series, featuring in high relief four different automobiles of the early 1900's - the 1910 Stanley Steamer, the 1911 Ford Model-T, the 1927 Bugatti and the 1936 MG. (c. 1979) Excellent condition with no chips, cracks or other damage to note.
The attached pewter-look zinc lid is shaped as a vintage automobile wheel, and it, together with the decorative thumb lift are in extremely good condition with very little oxidation noted. This hand-crafted vintage beer stein was produced by Ceramarte of Brazil exclusively for Avon.
Each of the four classic cars are done in high relief on the bulbous beer stein body, with the make, model and year of the vehicle noted near the base. Navy blue and red trim.
The 1910 Stanley Steamer automobile: Perhaps more than any other early automobile, "Stanley steamer" conjures up romantic images of popular though obsolescing vehicle technologies at the turn of the twentieth century. Of three competing forms of automotive power-steam, electricity, and internal combustion-only steam was a well-established power source for long-distance transportation. As the automobile market grew, it was only natural that inventors, tinkerers, and manufacturers adapted steam power for production cars.
The Stanley twins, Freelan and Francis, were pioneers of steam car technology and bridged a gap between technological adaptation and commercial production. Fewer than 1,000 Stanley cars were made each year, but the make developed a lasting reputation for power and speed. Stanley cars were entered in many auto races and held impressive records, including a world speed record set in 1906. This car, a 1910 Stanley Model 60 runabout, is a production model and is typical of the company's output.
The 1911 Ford Model T automobile: Henry Ford did not invent the automobile or the assembly line. He did, however, change the world by using an assembly line technique to produce cars which could be afforded by everyone. From 1909 to 1927, the Ford Motor Company built more than 15 million Model T cars. Without a doubt, Henry Ford transformed the economic and social fabric of the 20th century.
Ford is often quoted as saying "I will build a motorcar for the great multitude". At the time it was a revolutionary business model to lower a product's cost and the company's profit margin in exchange for increased sales volume. Up until this point in time the automobile had been a status symbol and cars were painstakingly built by hand for the wealthy. By the end of 1913 Ford's application of the moving assembly line had improved the speed of chassis assembly from 12 hours and eight minutes to one hour and 33 minutes. In 1914 Ford produced 308,162 cars, which was more than all 299 other auto manufacturers combined. By the time the last Model T was built in 1927, the company was producing an automobile every 24 seconds.
The first production Model T Ford (1909 model year) was assembled at the Piquette Avenue Plant in Detroit on October 1, 1908. Over the next 19 years relatively few fundamental changes were made to the basic design. By 1926 the design was so antiquated that the Model T could not compete with more modern offerings from competitors like Chevrolet. 1927 was the last year for Henry's lady, the "Universal Car".
The 1927 Bugatti automobile: The Bugatti type 41 known as Bugatti Royale was produced in 1927-1933. Made only 6 from originally planned 25, Bugatti Royale is now one of the rarest cars in the world. Bugatti firstly intended to sell the Royale cars to royalties, as the cars’ name suggests. However, even royalties could not afford to buy such luxurious cars in time of Great Depression. Only 3 of 6 cars finally managed to find their buyers, none of them were royalties. The Type 41 was invented by Bugatti as an answer to the comments of an English lady who compared his cars unfavorably with those of Rolls-Royce.
The 1936 MG automobile: The MG Car Company is a former British sports car manufacturer founded in the 1920s by Cecil Kimber. Best known for its two-seat open sports cars, MG also produced saloons and coupés.
The original MG marque was in continuous use (barring the years of the Second World War) for 56 years after its inception. Production of predominantly two-seater sports cars was concentrated at a factory in Abingdon, some 10 miles (16 km) south of Oxford. The British Motor Corporation (BMC) competition department was also based at the Abingdon plant and produced many winning rally and race cars. In the autumn of 1980, however, the Abingdon factory closed and MGB production ceased.
This vintage Avon lidded beer stein Classic Car Series measures 8-3/4" tall at the top of the thumblift, 7-1/4" to the top of the stein lip, 4" in diameter at the base, 6-1/4" wide from the outside edge of the handle to the outside edge of the stein body and weighs 2 pounds 7 ounces. Marked on the base AVON, Handcrafted in Brazil exclusively for Avon Products Inc., 1979, numbered 69453 in gold ink and the original foil label stating CERAMARTE, Made in Brazil.
