Sarah Coventry jewelry was named after the granddaughter of Lyman K. Stuart, the founder of the company. It was established in 1949 and is recognized as the oldest direct selling jewelry company in the world. They did not design their own jewelry but used other manufacturers to produce their jewelry. Most of the production happened in the state of Rhode Island. Sarah Coventry jewelry were purchased at home jewelry parties by "fashion directors" throughout the country until 1984 when the company closed its door.
Walter W. Ross founded Beta Sigma Phi on April 30, 1931 in Abilene, Kansas. This was during the Great Depression, and there was a need for an organization that allowed women to get together and socialize. The original name of this organization was The National What to Read Club. This club allowed for women to come together in a social, cultural and educational setting. The organization has spread to over 30 countries throughout the world. The Greek name Beta Sigma Phi means Life, Learning and Friendship, which is also our motto: "Vita Scientia Amicitia".
